My Journey through South Korea – From Seoul to Busan and Gwangju
My Journey through South Korea began in Seoul, a vibrant metropolis that immediately took my breath away. Immediately after my arrival, I decided to start in Myeongdong. This busy shopping street, known for its colorful shops and street stalls, was a perfect introduction to South Korean city life. I strolled through the narrow streets, tried delicious snacks and immersed myself in the exciting hustle and bustle of the city.
My next destination was the N Seoul Tower, which impressed with its breathtaking view of the city. From the top of the tower, I could see Seoul from a bird’s eye view – a real highlight. In the evening, I visited the Myeongdong Night Market. It was a fantastic experience to stand amidst the lights and smells of grilled meat and sweet treats.

The next morning, I visited Cheonggyecheon, a tranquil stream that meanders through the center of Seoul and is perfect for a relaxing break from the hectic city life. Then I went to the majestic Gyeongbokgung Palace, a historical landmark of Seoul that reflects Korea’s ancient history. Near the palace, I hiked a section of the Seoul City Wall Trail, which offered a great view of the city.
An authentic experience, I visited Gwangjang Market.
Here I was able to sample the famous Korean cuisine – from bindaetteok (mung bean pancakes) to mayak gimbap (small rice rolls). Then I continued on to Gangnam, arguably the most famous district in Seoul. The bustling shopping and business district showed me the modern, hip face of the city.

Another highlight was the Starfield Library, an impressive library in a shopping center that impressed me with its size and architecture. Around the corner from the library you will find the Gangnam Style Monument. I also strolled along K-Star Road, a hotspot for K-Pop fans, with many shops and memorabilia from the world of Korean pop stars.
Of course, a visit to a Korean BBQ restaurant was a must. With friends and locals I enjoyed delicious samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) and other Korean specialties. To round off the first part of my trip, I visited Banpo Bridge to see the beautiful light show of the Banpo Rainbow Fountain.
Another unforgettable moment was visiting a themed cafe – a must in South Korea.
Especially in Seoul and Busan you can find numerous cafes that revolve around special themes. One of my favorite cafes was the cat cafe in Seoul. It was incredible to sit among cats playing and enjoy a delicious coffee. This type of cafe culture has a long tradition in South Korea and is popular with locals and tourists alike.
For anyone who likes theme parks, a visit to Lotte World in Seoul is worth considering. The theme park is particularly popular with families and younger visitors, although it seemed a bit kitschy for my taste. However, if you can handle long waits and a lot of hustle and bustle, it is a fun trip. Lotte World offers a colorful mix of rides, an indoor and an outdoor area as well as numerous shops and restaurants. What also made my trip particularly enjoyable was South Korea’s excellent public transport network. In Seoul, it was easy to get from one place to another using the subway and buses.

The network is not only well developed, but also affordable and reliable. But not only in Seoul – the bus system is also excellent in smaller cities like Sokcho. From there, I could easily reach Seoraksan National Park and head to other destinations. South Korea’s rail and bus services seamlessly connect the entire country, making travel quick and inexpensive.
The next day, I traveled by bus to Sokcho, a small coastal town known as the gateway to Seoraksan National Park. The hike in the national park was an unforgettable experience – the scenery with the steep mountains, clear streams and picturesque temples was breathtaking. I also visited some impressive waterfalls and took the cable car to the top of the mountain to enjoy the view.

From Sokcho I took the bus to Busan, the second largest city in South Korea. At Bujeon Market I immersed myself again in Korean food culture. Gwangalli Beach was a perfect place to relax and enjoy the fresh sea breeze.
After that I visited the Busan Cultural Village, which impressed me with its mix of traditional architecture and art. I enjoyed delicious ramen and toured the lively Seomyeon Market before diving into Busan’s nightlife. The Groove Club offered me an exciting evening with good music and dancing people.

I then took the bus to Gwangju, a city known for its cultural significance. There I visited Sajik Park, a place of peace and relaxation. At the Youth Balsan Village I experienced a cultural center that combined creativity and tradition. I particularly liked Donmyeong-dong Café Street, which was full of charming cafes and small boutiques.
After all these experiences | Journey through South Korea
I returned to Seoul. At the end of my trip, I enjoyed the International Fireworks Festival in Ichon Hangang Park, which crowned the spectacular impressions of my trip with a magnificent fireworks display. With its mixture of tradition and modernity, nature and urbanity, South Korea gave me a trip full of unforgettable moments. It was a discovery of the diversity of this unique country, which surprised me again and again with its hospitality and its highlights. Thanks to the well-connected, efficient and affordable public transport network, I was able to reach all of these wonderful places easily and comfortably.
