From San Pedro de Atacama to Bolivia adventure full of natural wonders and adrenaline
After leaving Chile behind, my journey took me to Bolivia adventure, directly from San Pedro de Atacama. I had booked a tour that took me in a jeep into the breathtaking landscape of the Bolivian side of the Atacama Desert. The jeep was designed for 6 people and I was on this adventurous journey with other travelers.
Laguna Verde, Laguna Blanca and the Dali Desert
Our first stop took us to Laguna Verde, a bright green lake whose color is caused by the arsenic dissolved in it. The sight was surreal, almost unreal, and the surrounding volcanic landscape reinforced the feeling of being in another world. Just a few kilometers away was Laguna Blanca, which was also an unforgettable sight with its clear, white water.
From there we drove on to the Dali Desert. The name says it all: The landscape looked like it had been painted by the artist Salvador Dalí, with bizarre rocks and surreal shapes protruding from the desert sand. This area reminded me of the feeling of standing in a living canvas.

Aguas Termales and Sol de Mañana
Another highlight of our tour was the visit to the Aguas Termales, hot springs at an altitude of around 4,300 meters. The warm water in the cool, thin air of the high Andes was a blessing.
Just a few hours later we reached the impressive Sol de Mañana geysers at 4,850 meters – a real place of power where you could feel the earth’s warmth up close. The bubbling springs and steaming volcanic crater edges gave you the feeling of standing in the middle of the planet.

Laguna Colorada and Valle de Rocas
We continued to Laguna Colorada, a red lake populated by giant flamingos that added to the surreal color scheme. The view was breathtaking, and the peaceful atmosphere offered a welcome respite from the harsh beauty of the desert. We then visited Valle de Rocas, a valley with giant rocks that protruded from the earth like mystical figures.

Mirador Canon Anaconda and the Railway Cemetery
The next stop was the Mirador Canon Anaconda, a viewpoint from which you could have an incredible view of the vast landscapes and deep canyons. Later, our route took us to the Railway Cemetery in Uyuni. Here, rusty, old locomotives and trains stood, crossing the endless desert like relics from a bygone era. It was a fascinating place where you could literally feel the history of the region.

Salar de Uyuni – The largest salt field in the world
The highlight of my trip to Bolivia was without a doubt the visit to the Salar de Uyuni, the largest salt field in the world. The endless expanse and the shimmering, white salt that stretches to the horizon was a sight I will never forget. The Salar looked like a huge, reflective surface that absorbed the sky and clouds, making me feel like I was standing on another planet. Visiting this magical place was an unforgettable moment.

From Uyuni to La Paz
After visiting the Salar de Uyuni, we took the night bus to La Paz, the highest capital in the world. The journey was long, but it was exciting to get close to the vibrant metropolis. Once in La Paz, I took a city tour to learn more about this unique city. The witches’ market was a fascinating place where I found a variety of mystical herbs, magic potions and shamanic items – a perfect place to immerse myself in the local culture and spirituality.

La Paz from a bird’s eye view
Another highlight in La Paz was the cable car ride to El Alto. The view from up there was overwhelming: La Paz stretches out in a deep valley, surrounded by majestic mountains. The viewpoint in El Alto offered a fantastic view of the city and its surroundings. I could see the impressive contrast between the modern architecture and the traditional Andean villages in the distance.
On Calle Jaén, one of the oldest streets in La Paz, I experienced the city’s colonial history, while Plaza Murillo gave me a fascinating insight into the political center of Bolivia.

Pure adrenaline: mountain bike tour on the Death Road
The crowning glory of my stay in La Paz was a guided mountain bike tour on the infamous Death Road, the most dangerous road in the world. That was pure adrenaline! The steep slopes, the sharp curves and the breathtaking views of the jungle and the mountains made the ride an unforgettable experience. The thrill, combined with the majestic nature, was a perfect end to my trip through Bolivia Adventure.

Conclusion: An Bolivia Adventure for the senses
My trip through Bolivia was a true adventure that deeply impressed me with its incredible nature and unique experiences. From the Salar de Uyuni to the pristine beauty of the lagoons to the dangerous Death Road – Bolivia challenged me in ways that I will never forget. It was a journey full of fascinating discoveries that brought me into harmony with both nature and myself.
